Catalyst for Change: A Facilitated Community Dialogue To Be Heard and Address Violence Against Girls and Women

The Women of Color Resource Center is hosting a community forum

in response to the tragic violence and rape that happened on October 24th

at Richmond High School. On Tuesday, the survivor released a statement,

"We realize people are angry about this, but let the anger cause change; change that is necessary to keep our children, our neighbors and our friends safe."

What happened in Richmond is not an isolated incident. The difficult reality is that 44% of victims are under age 18, 80% are under age 30 and approximately 2/3 of rapes were committed by someone known to the victim. We no longer have the privilege to ignore the pervasive violence against females. We are taking this moment to engage in community dialogue as a catalyst to be heard; and identify ways people can take action, individually or collectively, to address violence against women and girls.
