Economic Justice and Human Rights Intern


The Women of Color Resource Center is offering an enthusiastic, self-starting, hardworking student an exciting internship in the Economic Justice and Human Rights Program of a respected social justice organization. The internship provides the opportunity to gather experience in economic justice, popular education, research, public relations, outreach, and social justice work. The intern will have the opportunity to develop leadership and organizing skills.

The intern will assist staff with:

  • Assist with WREAP (Welfare Rights Education and Advocacy Program) & TEMPO (Technological Empowerment and Media Project of Oakland) projects.
  • Assist in designing popular education workshops on economic justice and human rights topics.
  • Assist in writing articles, blogs and op/eds that reflect organizational political perspective for broad audiences.
Qualities and skills required:
  • A commitment to Social Justice
  • Strong writing, research, and communication skills
  • Computer skills, including Word, Internet
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • An expressed interest in world events
  • Organized and efficient, yet able to work with a sense of humor

Interns are expected to make a minimum commitment of 3 months to the organization and to meet a number of work hours agreed upon in advance with the organization. Interns are required to attend an orientation session.

Interns will be evaluated at the end of their internship and will also be asked to evaluate the internship experience. If the internship is for class credit, WCRC will provide the required documentation.

WCRC promotes the political, economic, social and cultural well being of women and girls of color in the United States. Informed by a social justice perspective that takes into account the status of women internationally, WCRC is committed to organizing and educating women of color across lines of race, ethnicity, nationality, class, sexual orientation, physical ability and age.
