The Women of Color Resource Center (WCRC) is a nearly twenty-year-old non-profit organizations working to improve the well-being of women and girls of color by supporting leadership development, feminist and social justice-based research and social analysis, and community and movement building.
Communications internships are unique opportunities to work in a small organization where your work will be valued and valuable, and where we can try and tailor your experience so that you can gain new skills, knowledge and experiences.
We would prefer a semester-long commitment of at least eight hours-a-week, but it may be possible to negotiate alternatives. Additionally in some cases there might be the possibility to work outside of the SF Bay Area.
All internships are voluntary positions.
Each Communications Internship is a unique combination of activities in these core areas:
- Archivists-digitizing and researching historical documents held by WCRC
- Communications-copy writing and design for WCRC publications
- Events-planning events including our BrownBag speaker series and Sisters of Fire, our signature community event
- Media and PR-promoting WCRC events, and publications in the media and community
- Research and Writing-primarily literature and policy research to support programmatic work
- Social and New Media-being a web maven and supporting WCRC's various online projects
Qualities and skills required: A commitment to Social Justice Strong writing and research skills Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines An expressed interest in local , regional and world events Organized and efficient, yet able to work with a sense of humor Desirable skills include: Knowledge of an additional language particularly Spanish, Mandarin or Korean
