The Women of Color Resource Center seeks interns for the Summer of 2009. The position is perfect for someone interested in gaining fundraising experience in a social justice organization working on issues that affect women of color. We are especially seeking interns willing to assist staff with the following tasks:
- Researching funding sources
- Assisting with the planning of the 11th Annual Sisters of Fire Awards
- Maintaining development files
- Other duties as necessary
Qualifications
- Have an interest in fundraising, research, grant writing, event planning, and/or non-profit organizations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent skills in Word, Excel, and website research.
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks with grace, energy and a sense of humor
- Adaptable and eager to learn
Interns are required to attend an orientation session. WCRC is open to working with educational institutions in arranging internships for class credit. Interns will be evaluated at the end of their internship and will also be asked to evaluate the internship experience.
WCRC's office is staffed by Anisha Desai (Executive Director), Sheryl-Ann Simpson (Communication Director), Maryam Roberts (Peace & Solidarity Director), Laura Flynn (Development Director), Shanina Shumate (Technological Empowerment & Media Project of Oakland - TEMPO), and Amanda Urquiza (Finance Director). The Board of Directors includes Caroline Acuna, Jung Hee Choi, Angela Y. Davis, elmira Nazombe, Genevieve Negron-Gonzales, Mei-Ying Williams, Malaika Parker, Alex Vasquez.
